ABOUT THE PAINTING

Earhart was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She wrote best-selling books about her flying experiences and was instrumental in the formation of The Ninety-Nines (an organization for female pilots). She campaigned for greater public acceptance of aviation, especially focusing on the role of women entering the field. In 1929, Earhart was among the first aviators to promote commercial air travel and invested in setting up the first regional shuttle service.
